Jane Riley was named the most valuable player of the Coast Conference's North Division, and the De Anza women's basketball star certainly played like it in the first two rounds of the Northern California playoffs.
Riley poured in 19 points to lead the Dons to a 62-46 win over American River, and she came back with 13 points in a 76-48 win over Fresno City College. The two wins helped the Lady Dons improve to 30-6 for the year.
Shana Buchanan tossed in 12 points, and Jaymie Woodard added 11 in the win over American River. Jenny Miller chipped in with eight.
Woodard was the scoring leader in the win over Fresno with 17 points.
Registration deadlines are approaching this month for teams interested in playing adult volleyball, basketball and softball in Sunnyvale this spring.
Softball teams have until March 11 to register for the spring season that begins March 23. Leagues are scheduled evenings Sunday through Friday at Sunnyvale parks. The registration fee is $350 per team, with an additional $10 charged for each non-Sunnyvale resident on the roster.
The registration deadline is March 14 for teams interested in participating in the Sunnyvale adult volleyball league, and the deadline for basketball signups is March 21.
Sunnyvale is also holding signups for the upcoming adult basketball season. The registration deadline is March 21.
The 11-week season begins April 6, with leagues playing Sunday through Thursday evenings. The registration fee is $510 per team.
