Homestead Golf
Donna Chavez loves golf--and with good reason... she's pretty good at the game.
So Chavez is sharing her knowledge of the game with the players on the Homestead golf team. And she has plenty to share.
Chavez, a second-year golf coach for the Mustangs but a longtime teacher at the school, has been playing golf for 20 years and belongs to women's clubs at the Ridgemark Country Club in Hollister and another club in Seaside. Her index is a low seven.
"I come to this coaching job with much experience," said Chavez, who had attended many clinics on the game. "And I love golf."
The Homestead golfers get the message, and they hope to learn as much as they can from their coach in their quest for a division championship.
The Mustangs finished third in the division last year, and Chavez is confident Homestead will come through with another strong showing in 2002.
"We should finish at least third, if not better," said the coach. "We lost four seniors, but have five returning players."
David Krause and Eric Domke are top returners for Homestead this spring, and Geoffrey Bazinett, Kurt Dodger and John Lee are top newcomers.
"We have high expectations for Kurt and Geoffrey," said Chavez.
Knights' High GPAs
The King's Academy wrestling team finished among the top contenders for the Central Coast Section's Winter Season Scholastic Championship team awards.
The Knights teamed for a combined 3.3140 grade point average to finish fifth among wrestling teams in the CCS.
