BRIEFS

Dons win two of three

The De Anza Community College baseball teams sandwiched wins over the City College of San Francisco and Cabrillo around a tough loss to Cañada last week to jump to 3-1 in the Northern Division of the Coast Conference.

Tony Righetti (Bellarmine) went the distance to toss a five-hitter in the 4-1 win over the Seahawks last weekend. Righetti fanned 14 in the win.

Lou Soria (Homestead) and Rick Wiens (Pioneer) each singled and doubled for the Dons and Steve Carrieri (Homestead) popped a two-run homer. Richard Rodrigues (Homestead) ripped a couple of hits and Ted Culver (Monta Vista) doubled.

The Dons, now 11-4-1 for the year, had opened the week with a 12-7 victory over San Francisco. Alex Del Castillo (Leland) picked up the mound win and Carrieri led an 11-hit assault with a triple, double and two singles.

Soria singled and doubled to drive in a pair of runs for the Dons and Keith Ivicevich (Cupertino) doubled home a pair. Zach Gudahl (Bellarmine) doubled and Rodrigues drove in two runs in the win.

Joey Passanisi knocked in a run with a two-out single in the second, but that would turn out to be the only run and only hit for the Dons in a 10-1 loss to Cañada.
