Man sought for girl's assault

Sunnyvale Public Safety officers are searching for a man who assaulted a 9-year-old girl on March 2 near San Antonio Park on Astoria Drive. Capt. Steve Pigott said the man approached the girl, who was admiring a tan-and-white beagle, and asked whether the dog belonged to her. He described the suspect as a "chubby" white man, age 30 or older, 5-foot 7-inches tall, 165 pounds, with light brown, collar-length hair and blue eyes. The man wore a red, white and blue scatter-patterned jogging suit with a zip-front jacket. Pigott said the man placed his right hand on the girl's back, turned her toward him and forcibly attempted to French-kiss her. She pulled away and ran to her home, Pigott said. The suspect then ran toward San Antonio Park. The dog, which wore a blue collar, followed him. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call Sunnyvale Public Safety at 730-7110.
