Public Safety
The following incidents were compiled from the log at the Sunnyvale Public Safety Department
Commercial Burglary--March 6, 4:30 a.m., 500 block of E. Weddell Drive. Unknown suspects gained entry into the south glass door of an electronics business via window/glass door smash. Suspects then opened the north bay roll-up door and took $112,000 in computers and computer equipment that was recently stacked in the loading bay. Multiple suspects were involved in order to load the heavy items stolen.
Grand Theft/Auto Parts--March 3, 9:11 a.m., 700 block of E. El Camino Real. Unknown suspect stripped all body parts off the front end and the entire interior including radio and drive computer from the dash of a car at a local car dealership. This was the only "limited" edition on the lot. Losses totaled $6,000.
False Identification to Officer--Feb. 26, 6:25 p.m., Intersection of Mary Avenue and El Camino Real. During a traffic stop, the driver presented his uncle's driver's license and signed a citation in the name of his uncle. The suspect's true identity was discovered and he was arrested.
Unlawful Entry/Apartment--Feb. 26, 12:23 p.m., 600 block of S. Fair Oaks Avenue. Between Feb. 21 and Feb. 26, an unknown suspect entered a vacant apartment through an unlocked window. The reporting party and apartment manager found some trash and a portable heating pad inside the apartment. The only damage to the apartment was a small cigarette burn on the carpet.
Leash Required--Feb. 26, 11:24 a.m., 300 block of Stowell Avenue. William Kwan was delivering mail. He was charged by a large dog that jumped a 3-foot gate at 368 Stowell Ave., and had to take defensive measures to protect himself. The dog remained at large in the area until an officer arrived at 11:33 a.m. and secured the dog for impound at the shelter. The dog owner later reclaimed the dog and was issued a citation.
Possession of Stolen Property/Auto--Feb. 24, 12:53 a.m., Intersection of Central and Lawrence expressways. Suspect was driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen to police on Jan. 9, 2001. Suspect resisted arrest during handcuffing. Suspect also gave a false name during booking. When his true identity was established by fingerprints, suspect was arrested and booked into county jail.
Brandishing Imitation Handgun--Feb. 23, 5:10 p.m., Intersection of Central Expressway and Mathilda Avenue. Victim and Suspect exchanged negative gestures after the suspect wouldn't let victim pass him on the road. Suspect then brandished a cap gun that had similarities to a real gun. Victim got scared and called 911. Suspect was arrested and transported to county jail.
