Jessica Pullano fired a three-hit shutout to lead the Fremont girls' softball team to a tight 1-0 win over Cupertino in a nonleague game last week.
Pullano fanned eight as she blanked the Pioneers for seven innings. A lone run in the second was enough to lift the Indians to the victory.
Fremont improved to 5-2 for the year with the win.
But it was Fremont on the wrong end of a shutout later in the week. The Indians were held to four hits in a 10-0 loss to Palo Alto. Sheila Hess doubled in the loss for Fremont.
Fremont had opened the league season with a 7-0 win over Milpitas thanks to a two-hit shutout by Pullano.
Shannon Ryan singled and doubled to lead a six-hit attack for the Indians and Hess ripped a triple.
Fremont scored the only run Pullano needed with a single marker in the second. But the Indians picked up another run in the third and added three in the fifth on the road to the easy win.

The Fremont boys' tennis team was blanked 7-0 by Homestead and 7-0 by Wilcox in a pair of matches last week.
The Indians fell to 5-3 for the year with the two losses and to 1-1 in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic following the loss to Wilcox.
A week earlier, Fremont had won twice, beating Santa Clara 6-1 in league play and Carlmont 5-2 in a nonleague match. H. Nguyen and Daniel Schuet posted wins in each of the matches for the Indians. Nguyen won twice at No. 1 singles and Schuet won at No. 3 singles against Santa Clara and at No. 4 singles against Carlmont.
