Carrieri leads Dons

Steve Carrieri (Homestead) tossed eight shut-out innings to lead the De Anza Community College baseball team to a convincing 10-0 win over Foothill in a game in the Northern Division of the Coast Conference.

Carrieri fanned five and allowed just two hits in his stint. The win ran his mound record to 3-1.

Zach Gudahl (Bellarmine) and Richard Rodrigues (Homestead) ripped three hits apiece in the De Anza win and Lou Soria (Homestead) singled and doubled. Keith Ivicevich (Cupertino), Joey Passanisi (St. Francis) and Max Childress (Homestead) had two hits each in the win and Mike Gardner (Leland) knocked in two runs.

Alex Del Castillo (Leland) was the winning pitcher in De Anza's tight 9-8 win over the College of San Mateo to open the week.

Rodrigues homered and doubled to drive in three runs and Soria and Childress each singled and doubled.

Hardtke singled and doubled and Rodrigues had two hits, but the Dons dropped a 10-4 nod to Chabot to finish the week.

Solorio leads Dons

Manual Solorio fired a five-over 75 to finish sixth overall for the De Anza Community College golf team in a Coast Conference tournament last week at San Jose Country Club.

Solorio is one of five top freshman who joins with talented sophomores Jeff Dare (Lynbrook) and Jason Schmelzer (Wilcox) to head up the De Anza golf team this spring.

"This should be a competitive group," head coach Tuck Halsey said. "We're not bad," he said, adding that the Dons should rival Chabot for the top spot in the conference's Northern Division.
