Cherry Chase students walk to raise money

Cherry Chase Elementary students, parents and teachers will be walking, walking, walking this Friday, March 26, to raise money for their school.

From noon to 6 p.m. hundreds of children and adults will be walking laps around the school grounds for its 18th Annual Walk-a-thon, the school's largest fundraiser.

Sponsored by the school's PTA, the goal is to raise at least $25,000. The funds are used to supplement the school budget and provide teachers and programs the district is unable to offer.

For more information on how to make a donation or get involved, call Paula or Barbara at (408) 522-8241.

    Easter bunny Eggstravaganza

Families are welcome this Saturday, March 27, to the seventh annual Spring Eggstravaganza, co-sponsored by the Sunnyvale Town Center and the Sunnyvale Parks and Recreation Department.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the center there will be Easter egg hunts, visits with the Easter Bunny, arts and crafts tables and live entertainment.

Supervised egg hunts for children ages 2 to 8 will be held in the Heritage Grove courtyard from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hundreds of toy surprises and foil-covered chocolate eggs will be rewards for little searchers.

Visits and photos with the Easter Bunny are available in Center Court. Each child who visits the Bunny will receive a free treat. Bunny visits and photos are available Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sunnyvale Town Center is located on Mathilda Avenue between Highway 101 and El Camino Real. For more information about the Eggstravaganza call (408) 730-7350 or 245-6585. For deaf access, call (408) 730-7501.

Orchard Heritage Project seeks family histories

The Orchard Heritage Project is compiling an "honor roll" of families who have been involved with orchard businesses in Santa Clara Valley for 50 or more years. The collected names of families will be made part of a permanent exhibit at the Orchard Heritage Park Interpretive Exhibit (OHPIE).

According to Ann Hines, OHPIE volunteer, the center will "tell the story of the deep roots that were planted in this valley long before the growing of silicon crystals replaced the harvest of apricots, cherries, pears, plums, and walnuts."

The Orchard honor roll will be compiled continuously, but information received before April 15 will be included in the annual Orchard Heritage Blossom Faire and Barbecue on May 22. For more information, contact Ann Hines at (408) 738-0846.
