The scene is poignant--four hungry children looking longingly into a food-filled shopping cart and a desperate mother without enough money to pay for all the food. She faces a tough but hopeless choice. She has to remove items from the cart, so she can buy some food with the money she has. But, she cannot feed all her children. One or more of her children will remain hungry. This could happen to any family during tough times and it did--to State Assemblywoman Rebecca Cohn and her family when she was a child. Cohn, representing the 24th Assembly District, recounted this heart-wrenching tale on March 15 to a packed audience at the State Legislative Budget Forum for Non-Profits at the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors Chambers.
