Council will meet off-site in April

The City Council voted March 19 to hold two upcoming council meetings in Sunnyvale neighborhoods.

David Vossbrink, the city's community relations officer, said that there are trade-offs involved in this plan.

"Meetings may be more accessible to some folks, but others will have to go farther, and we will not be able to broadcast the meetings on KSUN [Channel 18] from a remote location," Vossbrink said.

The council will convene its April 30 meeting at Adobe Wells Mobile Home Park and its July 23 meeting at Stocklmeier School.

Work plan approved

The Sunnyvale City Council last week approved a work plan to study existing city-imposed mandates, examine their purpose and explore alternatives.

Councilmember Jim Roberts, who sponsored the issue at the council's legislative workshop, said the mandates make the Economic Develop-ment Department's job more difficult because staff must work harder to attract out-of-town businesses, which are subject to the city fees upon relocation.

Lockheed executive gets national honor

A Lockheed Martin official has been named California Manufacturer of the Year.

Dan Tellep, former chief executive officer of the Sunnyvale missiles and space company, received the award from Gov. Pete Wilson on March 18.

Tellep began his Lockheed career in 1955. He retired as an active employee in 1995, but he will remain chairman of the board through this year.
