At a meeting on March 6, the Fremont Union High School District's board of trustees honored Lourdes Fong and Nancy Sullivan for their achievements on staff at Fremont High School.
Fong, a senior bilingual instructional assistant, was honored as the district's Classified Employee of the Year. Fong began working in the district in 1975, at Sunnyvale High School, translating for students from mainland China. Shortly thereafter, Fong began assisting teachers with ESL students. Fong transferred to Fremont High School in 1981, when Sunnyvale High closed. Fong also taught ESL classes part time in the district's Adult and Community Education Program from 1979 to 1995.
Sullivan, a special education and science teacher at Fremont High School, was honored as the district's Certificated Employee of the Year. Sullivan began her teaching career at Fremont High School in 1998, and has coached Fremont and Homestead high schools' drill teams in the past. Sullivan accepted her award on behalf of the school's special education department.
