The Internal Revenue Service and VITA volunteers are offering free income-tax assistance to elderly, disabled, low-income and non-English-speaking taxpayers.
Help is available in Sunnyvale at the Chinese-American Cultural Center, 1269 Forgewood Drive, from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays until April 15.
In addition, the IRS says some low-income families and individuals can pocket up to a $3,110 refund of their income taxes if they claim the Earned Income Tax Credit on their 1995 return.
Although families must meet various requirements in order to get a tax refund, IRS spokesman Larry Wright says "it's surprising how many people are entitled to this credit but fail to claim it."
The IRS says some individuals and families qualify for Earned Income Tax Credit even if they do not owe taxes.
Compete information about the Earned Income Credit and how to claim it is free and can be ordered by calling (800) 829-3676. It can also be accessed at Web site http://www/irs.ustreas.gov.
