    Two temporary roads closures

There will be two temporary road closures in Sunnyvale for roadway improvement. Railroad crossings at Mary Avenue and Sunnyvale Avenue will be closed for up to four full days, to allow replacement of pavement. Mary Avenue at the Caltrain tracks will be closed from 8 p.m. on April 6, to 8 p.m. on April 9. Sunnyvale Avenue at the Caltrain tracks will be closed from 8 a.m. on April 13, to 8 p.m. on April 16.

Detours will be in effect, and construction noise and lighting may be noticeable. In order to minimize the length of the construction period and accommodate the Caltrain commute schedule, work will occur continuously during the road closures.

Contact the Sunnyvale Department of Public Works at 408.730.7415 with any questions or comments. Site maps of the road closure locations are available on the city's website at www.ci.sunnyvale.ca.us.

Camp Kesem open to local children

The Hillel Foundation at Stanford University has announced the launch of Camp Kesem--Camp "Magic" in Hebrew--a week-long overnight summer camp for Bay Area children who have a parent with cancer.

The camp, developed and organized by students at Stanford University, will be free for the families participating and will be staffed entirely by volunteers. Stanford undergraduate students will serve as counselors after receiving extenive training.

Camp Kesem will welcome its first 40 campers June 17-22, 2001, at Valley of the Moon Camp in Sonoma County. The program is open to all children in the greater Bay Area, ages 6-12. Campers will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis.

Camp Kesem aims to give children--in families coping with cancer--a safe, supportive and fun camp experience during which they can build friendships and gain strength from peers facing similar challenges.

Camp Kesem is a project of the Hillel Foundation at Stanford University. The foundation is a nonprofit organization and is co-sponsored by the Center for Healing and Wellness, the Community Breast Health Project, Kara, The Centre for Living with Dying and El Camino Hospital. The camp receives 100 percent of its support from individuals, foundations and corporations.

For more information, to obtain camper applications or to make a donation, contact Iris Rave, Camp Kesem's project coordinator, at campkesem@yahoo.com, or call 650.723.1603. Visit the camp's website at www.stanford.edu/group/hillel/kesemweb.
