Tax help available for senior citizens
It's not too late to get assistance filing federal or state tax returns--free tax preparation and counseling services are available to senior citizens, as well as people with low incomes or those who are disabled. The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) sponsors this program, which is available through April 11, at the Los Gatos Neighborhood Center, 208 E. Main St. Appointments are required. Call 408.354.1514 for more information.
Class teaches seniors how to write memoirs
The Senior Program at the Los Gatos-Saratoga Department of Community Education and Recreation offers a nine-week class called Life Stories, held on Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon, from April 24 through June 19, in room 11 of the Los Gatos Neighborhood Center, 208 E. Main St.
Led by instructor Sheila Dunec, the class allows seniors to participate in memory association exercises and follow guidelines that teach them how to recall long-forgotten but important incidents and anecdotes from their lives--and how to get these memories down on paper for future generations.
Students will also learn reflective techniques that promote a new understanding of these experiences. Finally, participants will engage in a search to discover what the enduring values are in their life stories.
Cost of the program is $45 per person. To register, or for more information, call 408.354.8700, or visit the Rec. Dept. at 123 E. Main St. in Los Gatos.
