Council endorses school bond

All but one of the Sunnyvale City Councilmembers endorsed Measure H, the, $144 million Fremont Union High School District facilities bond, which voters will decide upon in a special election Tuesday.

Councilmember Jack Walker abstained from the vote at the March 31 meeting.

Last year councilmember Stan Kawczynski asked the council to refrain from endorsing any proposition of any kind" as a singular body. After he voted to support the board, Kawczynski said he changed his mind because "this is an important one."

Rowe wants city attorney elected

Former Mayor Frances Rowe called for the city attorney's position to become an elected post rather than a council-appointed one, at the March 31 Sunnyvale City Council meeting.

Rowe asked the council to voluntarily put the item on the November ballot, stating that she would finance a special election herself to "champion this endeavor."

Speaking 10 feet away from current City Attorney Valerie Armento, Rowe said, "It is imperative that Sunnyvale has a city attorney who can maintain objectivity and refrain from becoming embroiled in issues which wind up costing the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars."

Afterward, Armento said, "She always has interesting ideas."
