The City Council voted 5-2 on April 2 to approve a 709-unit apartment project at Highway 101 and Lawrence Expressway. Seven of the 12 buildings in the project will be elevator-accessible, according to the developer, Bay Apartment Communities. The ground floor of one building near the front entrance will be used as retail space for a restaurant, health club or similar use.
The first plan for that property had been for a high-rise apartment complex, approved by the council in July 1989. Although the first developer had completed the foundation in 1992, the project could not be completed because of lack of finances.
