Sunnyvale resident Humberto M. Villar died April 2 at San Jose Medical Center after being beaten in a fight in a liquor-store parking lot.
San Jose police responded to a large fight at the corner of Monterey Highway and San Jose Avenue soon after midnight on March 30. Police found the 21-year-old Villar, who had apparently been beaten, nearby. He was taken by ambulance to San Jose Medical Center.
Villar and two other men were driving south in a tan 1970s Chevrolet Monte Carlo on Monterey Highway before the assault, police said. While driving, they became involved in a traffic altercation with two vehicles occupied by several men. All three cars stopped at a nearby liquor-store parking lot where they continued the confrontation, police said.
Villar and another passenger in the Monte Carlo were then assaulted, police said. The suspects fled.
Police described the suspects as Hispanic males in their late teens to early 20s. One of the suspect vehicles is a white late-model Ford Mustang.
Anyone who may have any information regarding the investigation should contact homicide detectives Ed Zarate or Scott Cornfield at 277-5283, or contact the San Jose Police Crime Stoppers Unit at 947-STOP.
