Mustangs stars
Homestead graduates Latonia Manning and Michele Tabarez were among the hitting stars for the San Jose City College women's softball team when the Lady Jaguars won the crown at the College of the Sequoias softball tournament last week.
Manning singled and doubled in a 7-3 win over Fresno City College, and Tabarez slapped a solo homer in the first to lead the Jags to a 1-0 win over Diablo Valley College in the semifinals.
Fremont grad Brandi Rodriguez is also a starter for the Jaguars.
Youth football
The Sunnyvale-Cupertino Pop Warner football organization has scheduled signups for the fall season for boys and girls interested in becoming players and cheerleaders.
Signups will be held April 13, May 11, June 8 and July 13, 9 a.m.-noon each day, at Fair Oaks Park in Sunnyvale. For more information, call 737-9654.
Five-on-Þve basketball
The De Anza five-on-five basketball league is currently accepting registration for the spring season. League play will begin April 14 and run through June 9 with games to be played Sundays, 4-8 p.m. The registration fee is $450 per team, and the deadline for registration is April 13. Run to the Stars
The annual Run to the Stars returns to Christa McAuliffe Elementary School in Saratoga on April 28. The 3K race begins at 8:30 a.m. with the 8K race to begin at 9 a.m. The registration fee is $14 by April 19 ($9 for each child under 17 registering with an adult), or $17 on race day. Race day registration begins at 7 a.m.
