    Public Safety

    The following incidents were compiled from the log at the Sunnyvale Public Safety Department.

    Giving false information--March 31, 11:26 p.m., Corner of Fair Oaks Ave. and Duane Ave. An officer stopped a car for vehicle violations. The passenger of the vehicle was not wearing a seat belt. He provided police with a false name. Eventually, police learned he had provided wrong information because of an outstanding warrant. He was arrested for the warrant and for lying to an officer.

    Petty theft--March 31, 2:35 p.m., 1000 block of Arques Ave. A man entered an electronics store, selected a hard drive from the display and concealed it between a newspaper he was carrying. The suspect exited the store without paying for the item and was placed under arrest by store security.

    Reckless driving--March 31, 12:50 p.m., 700 block of Mary Ave. An officer was behind a vehicle at a traffic light at El Camino Real and Mary Ave. When the light turned green, the suspect immediately drove too close to the vehicle in front of him and stayed one to two car lengths behind the car. He continuously honked his horn in an effort to get the vehicle in front to move aside. The suspect then crossed the double-yellow line into oncoming traffic. He accelerated to 45 mph and maintained that speed. Officer cited the subject for driving with a willful disregard for the safety of his passengers and other drivers.

    Grand theft--March 30, 8:24 p.m., 200 block of S. Sunnyvale Ave. An officer responded to investigate a reported theft. An unknown suspect had dug up four planted bonsai trees on the east side of the building and fled the scene. The tree were valued at $640.

    Brandishing a weapon--March 28, 5 p.m., 200 block of Commercial St. The suspect and victim became involved in a verbal argument. The suspect went to the rear of his parked vehicle and reportedly returned with a shotgun.
