    'An American in Khadi' author visits Sunnyvale library

    Asha Sharma, the author of An American in Khadi: The Definitive Autobiography of Satyananda Stokes, will speak at the Sunnyvale Public Library's Program Room on April 24 at 7 p.m.

    Sharma will read from An American in Khadi, her 1999 biography about her grandfather, Samuel Stokes, an American Quaker who settled in India in 1904 and became a social worker and freedom fighter.

    The event is free and open to the public. The library is located at 665 W. Olive Ave. in Sunnyvale. For more information, call 408.730.7300.


    Workshop for aspiring poets

    The Sunnyvale Public Library is inviting teens and adults to a two-hour poetry workshop on April 20, 3-5 p.m. April is National Poetry Month.

    Poets Ellaraine Lockie and Anita Holzberg will instruct the workshop. Workshop participants should bring a pen and notepad for the writing exercises.
