Dons win a pair
Rich Rodrigues (Homestead) ripped seven hits, including a pair of homers, to help the De Anza College baseball team win two of three games last week.
The Dons opened the week with a 13-6 win over Cabrillo, then ripped San Francisco City College
9-1 before losing 10-9 to Cañada in 10 innings.
De Anza is now 11-7 in the North Division of the Coast Conference and 21-11-1 for the year.
Rodrigues homered and doubled and Lou Soria (Homestead) had two hits to lead the Dons to the win over Cabrillo. Steve Carrieri (Homestead) and Brad Hardtke each doubled in the game, and Carrieri went six solid innings to pick up the mound win.
Rodrigues singled and homered and Carrieri had two hits to drive in a pair of runs in the win over San Francisco. Jason Curnutt singled and doubled, Dom Repetti had two hits and Hardtke tripled home a couple of runs. Juan Alegria was the pitcher.
Rodrigues drilled three hits and Curnutt homered, but the Dons lost in the 10 innings to the Colts. Soria, Carrieri and Mike Gardner had two hits each in the game.
Gonzalez leads Dons
Fremont graduate Clemente Gonzalez fired a four-over-par 74 to finish third for De Anza Community College in a Coast Conference golf tournament played last week at the Sequoia Country Club.
De Anza's Jeremy Thielen shot a 76 to tie for eighth in the tourney field to help the Dons claim a team third.
Gym for kids open
Sunnyvale will offer an open gym for boys and girls ages 7-12 on Saturdays, 9-11 a.m., at Sunnyvale Middle School. The cost is $2 per person. For details, call Heidi at 730-7721.
Youth football
The Sunnyvale-Cupertino Pop Warner football organization has scheduled signups for the fall season for boys and girls interested in becoming players and cheerleaders.
Signups will be held May 11, June 8 and July 13, 9 a.m.-noon each day, at Fair Oaks Park in Sunnyvale. For more information, call 737-9654.
