    Health and Safety Fair held April 28

    The Sunnyvale Health and Safety Fair will take place on April 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Columbia Neighborhood Center, 785 Morse Avenue. The fair is a joint effort of Sunnyvale Public Safety, the Columbia Neighborhood Center, and the Sunnyvale Rotary. Bring a yellow immunization card to find out about health screenings. There will be information provided on free and low-cost health insurance for kids, as well as opportunities to register as a bone marrow donor. People of Hispanic origin are especially encouraged to register because of the small Hispanic donating pool. There will also be entertainment, fire and police department demonstrations, bicycle obstacle courses and a raffle. Call 408.523.8150.

    Voice your opinion on utility rates

    The Sunnyvale City Council will hold a public hearing on city utility rates on April 24, during the city council meeting beginning at 7:30 p.m. at city hall. The new rates set by the city council will become part of the fiscal year 2001/2002 fee schedule and will become effective on July 1, 2001. A copy of the council agenda will be available online at www.ci.sunnyvale.ca.us by 5 p.m. on April 20. A copy of the agenda can also be found at the library at the city clerk's office, which can be reached at 408.730.7483.

    Chamber Mixer

    The Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce will join with the Chambers of Campbell, Cupertino, Santa Clara and Mountain View to host the monthly mixer on April 19, at 5:30 p.m. at the Ramada Inn of Sunnyvale. The evening is also a celebration of AVIS Rent-A-Car's grand opening in Sunnyvale, now owned and operated by Dr. Marshall Mitzman.

    Honor mom with a rose

    The Rotary Club of Sunnyvale is holding its second annual "Roses For Mother's Day" fundraiser The long-stemmed roses will be bunched in one dozen and boxed for $25 dollars each. The Rotary Club will take orders through April 30.

    Roses may be bought for many other people besides mothers, such as wives, daughters and friends. Orders can be placed with any Rotarian members within the community, as well as through the Homestead Rotary Interacters and can be picked up on May 12, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Crosswalk Community Church at 445 South Mary Ave., in Sunnyvale. The proceeds from the sale of roses will go to Rotary's local youth programs.
