    The trees of Sunnyvale

We live amid the trees of Sunnyvale: redwoods, oaks, cypresses, pines and many others, flourishing, seen in parks, in rows on streets, close by homes, rooted in our ancient soil, splendorous in foliage, nature visions on a misty morn, bright afternoon or moonglow night.

Memories of an ancestral Eden adorning the land.

'Housewife' shouldn't be a dirty word

I hear so much about human rights, and I wonder why it isn't applied to the housewife. It is a shame the way housewives are treated in the country.

Shunned by society, ignored by the government, ridiculed by women's libbers, taken for granted by their families--they are truly the most victimized group in the country.

While many women are glorified in the press for their accomplishments, a housewife is never glorified in the press. 'Housewife' seems to be a dirty word in today's liberated society.

Yet no one works harder or longer than a housewife. She must excel as chef, chauffeur, nurse, accountant, judge, janitor, companion to her family and lover to her husband.

In spite of the housewife's accomplishments, there is no agency to help her in her time of need. Nor is there a sympathetic press to illustrate her plight.

While it's a shame the way the housewife is treated, it's a greater shame for a society to consider "housewife" a dirty word.
