Evans benefit
Be there, or be square!
That's what they're saying about the April 27 benefit show at the Christopher Ranch in Gilroy.
It promises to be a good show for a good cause with "Big Bop and the Choppers" and "Sha-Boom" headlining the event that's a fundraiser for the Brent Evans Trust.
Evans is the San Jose State University football player who was stricken with a brain tumor last fall.
For more information, call Sandy Paulson at 354-1512, John Grewohl at 637-0652 or the Evans family at 637-6137.
Three wins for Dons
Rich Rodrigues continues to tear up pitching in the Coast Conference. And no one could be happier than De Anza Community College coach Terry Hardtke.
Rodrigues, a Homestead graduate, ripped eight hits in three games last week, including two doubles and two homers, to lead the Dons to wins over Skyline, the College of San Mateo and Foothill.
Ted Culver (Monta Vista) belted three hits and Rodrigues, Carrieri and Ivicevich had two each for De Anza in a 3-2 win over San Mateo. Carrieri went the distance to pick up the mound win, striking out nine along the way. He pushed his pitching record to 6-3.
De Anza closed out the week with an 8-0 win over Foothill. Tony Righetti (Bellarmine) flipped a four-hit shutout for the win, fanning 11. Rodriguez doubled and singled twice to lead a 12-hit De Anza attack.
