Moffett Cleanup
The U.S. Navy along with the Environmental Protection Agency, and the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board invite the public to comment on the proposed plan for an installation-restoration program for the golf course landfill at Moffett Federal Airfield. The Navy will hold a public meeting presenting an overview of the proposed plan and for record public comments. According to environmental investigations, there is no waste exposed to the surface of the site; however, the potential risk to human health exists if buried landfill refuse is brought to the surface by burrowing animals. The purpose of the proposed plan is to present the alternatives and to evaluate their effectiveness in protecting human health and the environment.
The public meeting will be held April 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. in Mountain View City Council Chambers at 500 Castro St. Written and oral comments will be accepted at the meeting. The plan is also available for a 30-day public review and comment from April 2 to May 9.

City secures affordable rental housing
The City of Sunnyvale has helped ensure the protection of 222 units of low-income housing. The city loaned over 2.8 million dollars of federal community development block grant funds as well as HOME funds to Mid-Peninsula Housing Coalition to help finance the purchase of Homestead Park. Homestead is a 222-unit apartment complex on Tenaka Way. This purchase ensures that the rental rates at Homestead Park will remain affordable to low and moderate income families for the next 55 years. Mid-Peninsula Housing Coalition will manage the complex. A major renovation of the complex is scheduled for completion this year.
