    Fluoridation's costly

Buoyed by the passage of Sunnyvale fluoridation, Measure S, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission voted on Feb. l6 to build a new fluoridation facility in the East Bay and thereafter offer only fluoridated Hetch Hetchy water.

Then, in March, the SFPUC staff announced $4.4 billion in capital projects --the costs to be passed along to Bay Area water users-- prices to double.

If voters had not agreed to accept fluoridated water from San Francisco, Sunnyvale could have seriously contended that the provision of only fluoridated water would be a breach of its Hetch Hetchy water contract.

But with the passage of Measure S, San Francisco's arrogant social planners were given the green light to add fluoride, launch projects and raise prices before most of the current contracts expire in 2009.

The promoters of Measure S claimed that it was needed to forestall much higher water prices. The claim was never true, and the passage of the measure now appears to be having the opposite effect.

    Officials are helpful

At Cherry Chase Elementary School, our goal is to teach Hi-scope education combined with child development, but we also teach safety such as fire and earthquake drills.

I thought it would be a good idea for the Department of Safety to visit our class and explain safety around strangers and other safety rules. I asked them, but they told me the students were too young.

In the meantime, Mayor Jack Walker opened his office.e. I did stop in to see him, but of all days the mayor was out of town.

A lady sitting behind the desk Pat Dorsey, executive assistant to city council offered help. She made a call, I believe it was to Mariana Alvarez, community services officer, crime prevention unit, Sunnyvale Public Safety.

What a great lady, she sent safety coloring books and other reading materials, information about fire escapes and earthquake preparedness.

It would be nice if you could put this in your paper to show there are dedicated people here in Sunnyvale.
