Letters

Striking a balance

It is amusing to see the ping-ponging of letters on this lawsuit, but neither extreme is correct. The City Council had a right to remove Frances Rowe from the office they elected her to, and the city attorney had a right to a workplace free of harassment.

I believe there should have been two sets of hearings. One would have been private, to determine the specifics of the complaints against Rowe. One would have been public, to decide the council's response to Rowe's behavior toward an unnamed city employee.

The city should admit that it overstretched the personnel information exemption to the PRA and not appeal. Rowe supporters should admit the council had the right to remove her from a council-appointed position. So let's learn from this and move on.
