Public Safety

The following incidents were culled from reports filed by the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.

April 20, 1:04 p.m.--Residents of the 700 block of San Juan called police after a suspicious-looking 21-year-old man was seen peering through the windows of their homes. Officers who arrived on the scene said the suspect was behaving abnormally and placed him under arrest for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

April 15, 5:40 p.m.--While investigating a disturbance on the 600 block of Bernal Avenue, officers administered sobriety tests on a male suspect. After the suspect failed the tests, officers began handcuffing him when he resisted and attempted to kick the arresting officer. He was arrested for assaulting an officer.

April 18, 3:30 p.m.--Officers began searching for an 88-year-old man when family members said he never returned to his home at the Sunnyvale Retirement Inn after visiting his wife at the Manor Care Health Services facility in Sunnyvale. The man suffered from dementia, his family told officers, but would be able to remember his name. The next day, at about 9 p.m., Sunnyvale police officers received a call from the Palo Alto Police Department informing them the man had been located at a gas station in Palo Alto. The man was taken to El Camino Hospital, where he was admitted for routine observations and reunited with his family.
