    School revives musical

    The students of Ponderosa Elementary School's Starting Arts program will perform their production of the stage musical Schoolhouse Rock Live! May 9-10, 7 p.m., at Peterson Middle School's multipurpose room. Schoolhouse Rock Live! is based on the Schoolhouse Rock! educational cartoon shorts, which are best known for songs like "Conjunction Junction" and "I'm Just a Bill," popular in the 1970s. The production will feature a cast of third- through fifth-graders. The school is located at 1380 Rosalia Way, Sunnyvale. Tickets are $5. For information, call 408.423.4095.


    NOVA invites teachers May 2

    The NOVA Workforce Board is inviting teachers, principals and aspiring educators to a community forum on education at De Anza College in Cupertino on May 2, 5-7 p.m. Local education professionals from throughout the educational field will discuss workforce needs, skill requirements and other issues facing the education industry. Attendees will receive a copy of NOVA's latest in-depth industry effort, "Those Who Can ... Teach." For more information, call 408.730.7232 or visit www.novaworks.org.


    Kids art festival in May

    Fifty professional artists from throughout the Bay Area will gather for Hands on the Arts, the largest and oldest Bay Area art festival for kids. Juried artists will work together to share their skills with the children in workshops that will involve music, dance, painting, poetry, theater and sculpture.

    The festival will take place May 18, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Sunnyvale Community Center, 550 E. Remington Drive. Children can participate in all the activities for a fee of $4 per child or $12 maximum per family. For more information, call 408.730.7350.
