    Mustangs take two

    The Homestead boys volleyball team won two of three matches last week, but they won the two that mattered most.

    Homestead won a pair of Santa Clara Valley Athletic League decisions, but lost a tough 15-10, 15-9, 3-15, 8-15, 15-9 nod to Bellarmine in a nonleague match.

    The Mustangs handled Fremont 15-2, 15-3, 15-10 and outlasted Saratoga 15-1, 15-12, 3-15, 13-15, 15-2 to improve to 5-0 in league play. Homestead is 35-2 for the year.

    Sunnyvale AYSO

    The Sunnyvale AYSO soccer program will hold signups for players ages 4 1/2-18 (by July 31, 2000) for the fall season.

    Signups are slated for May 10, 7-9 p.m., at the Lakewood Park Building; May 20, noon-5 p.m., at the Town Center Courtyard; and June 10, 12:30-5 p.m., at the Ponderosa Park Building.

    Players must provide proof of age, a passport-sized photograph, their height and weight, name of insurance company, name and phone number of family doctor, and name and phone number of an emergency contact person.

    The fee is $50 per child for the first three players from a family. For more information, check the AYSO webside at www.ayso44.org or call 408.739.AYSO.

    Football signups

    The Sunnyvale-Cupertino Pop Warner Football program will hold signups for players and cheerleaders on May 20, 9 a.m.-noon, at Fair Oaks Park in Sunnyvale. Boys and girls ages 7-15 are eligible. For more information, call 408.737.9972.

    Soccer tryouts

    The Sunnyvale Spartans, a boys soccer team that competes in the CYSA Class 1 division, is looking for players for the fall season. Boys born after July 31, 1989, are eligible. For tryout information, email jch_2000@yahoo.com or call 408.720.1882.
