Alex Bauer was born in 1922 in a Hungarian village, the sixth out of seven children in a Jewish family. In 1944, after the Nazi occupation of Hungary, Bauer was sent to the Dachau concentration camp. Now, every week, he brings the story of his internment and survival to students at Bay area schools. He has become an active participant in local and statewide Holocaust support groups, community organizations, and educational forums. He has told his story to Steven Speilberg's Shoah Foundation's videotapes, and in the spring he often visits two or three schools a week.
