Freshman hurler Kathryn Neufeld ran her season record to 13-1 when she tossed King's Academy to a 16-0 win over San Francisco Christian last week.
Neufeld wins again in five
Firebirds upset first-place Wilcox

Freshman hurler Kathryn Neufeld is having trouble tossing seven complete innings for the King's Academy girls' softball team this spring.
She can't seem to get past the fifth inning.
But it's not a matter of the freshman hurler having trouble making the grade at the varsity level. In fact, quite the contrary. It's just that her teammates seem to be finishing most games two innings early!
The Knights did it again last week when they bombed San Francisco Christian 16-0 in a Christian Private Schools League game. Neufeld never made it to the seventh inning in that one because the Knights ended it in five on the 10-run rule. It was the seventh time this season that King's has won a game by 10 or more runs.
Neufeld was certainly in control in the five innings she worked. She blanked of San Francisco on just one hit as she picked up the mound win. She's now 13-1 in the 1998 season.
King's made short work of San Francisco, coming up with six-run rallies in the second and fifth to end the game in five frames.
Adrienne Cole had three hits to drive in four runs for the Knights in the win and Megan Blind had a double and three singles to knock home three runs.
Rebakah Atwell ripped three hits for the winners and Kirsten Cosrstophine singled and doubled to drive in two. Michelle Smith had two hits to plate a pair of runs and Cecily Gordon and Heather Garrell added two hits apiece.
The win helped King's improve to 5-0 in league play and 16-3 for the year. The Knights will host Mid Peninsula on May 5 and will visit St. Lawrence on May 8 before closing out the league season on May 12 at Liberty. All three games begin at 3:30 p.m.
In other area softball action last week, Fremont pounded Monta Vista 15-3 to improve to 6-1 in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.
Shiela Hess tossed a four-hitter, fanning seven and walking just two, to lead the Firebirds to the victory. The right-hander is now 6-1 for the season.
Felicia Diaz led the offensive attack for Fremont with a single, double and triple to drive in five runs. Lani Castro and Robin Glass had three hits apiece in the win and Kristina Hays singled and tripled. Carolyn Fidler cracked a double.
Fremont is now 13-6 for the year.
Over in the De Anza Division, Cupertino opened last week with a 10-7 win over Homestead, but the Pioneers lost 6-1 to Los Gatos and 8-0 to St. Francis to slip to 2-7 in division play.
Corrine Adkins tripled twice to drive in a pair of runs and Anne Saso had two hits to knock home a couple of runs in Cupertino's 10-7 win over the Mustangs. Saso was also the winning pitcher for the Pioneers.
Jamie Bergantz singled and tripled for Cupertino in the win and Margaret Le doubled home a pair of runs.
Shawnti Bortoli and Natalie Corral each drove in two runs for Homestead in the game. Corral was stuck with the pitching loss for the Mustangs.
Both Cupertino and Homestead lost twice later in the week.
The Pioneers lost 6-1 to Los Gatos, touching Gatos hurler Gillian Wadas for just one hit, then dropped an 8-1 nod to the Lancers.
Homestead fell 8-4 to Los Altos despite a double by Leann Cook and lost 2-0 to Mountain View despite a solid pitching performance by Shannon Suth. The Mustangs slipped to 0-9 in the division.
Baseball
Jose Carrillo blasted a two-run homer and Ray Loya went the distance to toss a seven-hitter to lead the Fremont baseball team to a 4-2 upset win over first-place Wilcox in the De Anza Division of the SCVAL.
The win helped the Firebirds improve to 8-6 in the division and to 11-12 for the year.
Loya struck out seven and walked only two as he tossed the Firebirds to the victory. He evened his mound record at 4-4 with the victory.
The win was the second of the week for the 'Birds, who had knocked off Homestead 8-1 two days earlier.
Ryan Armer singled and tripled to drive in three runs for Fremont in the win, and Carrillo and Petey Hernandez also had two hits apiece. Gabe Duran and Chris Hoff each doubled and Darren Lang drove in two runs.
Sophomore right-hander Jason Placencia picked up the mound win, pushing his record to 2-0.
Kayzell Milton homered and doubled for Homestead in the loss. The solo homer in the third accounted for the Mustangs' only run of the day. Jon Wilson doubled for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs are now 5-8 in the De Anza Division and 6-11-1 for the year.
