      Applications open for commissions

      The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to fill 17 vacancies on eight advisory boards.

      The deadline for filing applications is May 16. The City Council is scheduled to make its appointments in June.

      To be eligible, applicants must be registered voters living in Sunnyvale. Current city employees and their relatives are not eligible for appointment.

      The vacancies are on the Arts Commission, Board of Building Code Appeals, Board of Library Trustees, Heritage Preservation Commission, Housing and Human Services Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission and Personnel Board and Planning Commission.

      Applications can be picked up at the Sunnyvale Volunteer Services Office at 456 W. Olive Ave. For more information, call 730-7533.

      Workshop offered to stop pollution

      The City of Sunnyvale has invited industries in the Santa Clara Valley to join a workshop to study ways to prevent urban runoff pollution.

      The city hopes that can be achieved through better business and industry practices and permit compliance.

      The workshop will be held May 14 at 8:30 a.m. at the Sunnyvale Community Center, 550 E. Remington Ave.

      The workshop will focus on developing standards for the companies and strategies to help them comply with government regulations.
