Carrieri leads Dons to two victories
Steve Carrieri had quite a week. And because of it, so did the De Anza Community College baseball team.
Carrieri ripped five hits in two games to lead the Dons to wins over Cabrillo and the College of San Mateo.
The Homestead grad singled and doubled to lead a seven-hit De Anza attack in a 5-2 win over Cabrillo. He also tossed eight solid innings to pick up the win, striking out 10 while running his mound record to 7-3.
Ted Culver (Monta Vista) cracked a pair of hits for the Dons and Rich Rodrigues (Homestead) doubled.
Carrieri doubled twice and singled to lead the Dons to a tight 5-4 win over San Mateo later in the week. Joey Passanisi (St. Francis) also singled and doubled, and Lou Soria (Homestead) and Ben Curnutt (Santa Teresa) had two hits apiece. Max Childress (Homestead) ripped a double.
The Dons finished the year 28-13-1 overall and 17-9 in the North Division of the Coast Conference, second only to Cañada (21-5).
Indians lead Vikings
Fremont graduates Ken Fukumoto, Ray Hutchison and Jeff Canter helped the West Valley Community College baseball team to a rousing 24-2 win over Hartnell last week.
Fukumoto homered, doubled and singled twice in the win and Hutchison and Canter added two hits apiece.
