Tony Maranon and his canine companion carry the Olympic torch down El Camino Real in Sunnyvale, where thousands of flag-waving, cheering spectators gathered to witness the May 3 event. Sunnyvale residents David Ahn, Sue Barbieri, Megan Daniels and Eugene Goldsmith, as well as James Webb, an administrative assistant for the city, also served as torchbearers, carrying the Olympic flame a little closer to Atlanta, where the games will be held from July 19 to Aug. 4. Maranon is a former public safety officer for the city of Sunnyvale who was injured in the line of duty.
