    Fremont alum wins award

    Former Sunnyvale resident Dennis Discher, Ph.D., received a science and engineering award from President Clinton at a White House ceremony on April 12. Discher was valedictorian of Fremont's Class of 1982. He is currently on the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania

    Dr. Discher is one of eight offspring of Mary and David Discher of Sunnyvale. Two of his younger brothers are officers in Sunnyvale Public Safety Department.

    As a part of his presidential award he will receive a grant of $500,000 over a five-year period by the National Science Foundation in order to further his efforts in bioengineering.

    Survey coming

    The city of Sunnyvale will be conducting a citizen satisfaction survey during the week of May 15. Ten thousand surveys in English and Spanish will be sent out to selected homes. Recipients can respond 24 hours a day, via an 800 telephone number. The Gelfond Group, a consulting firm, will perform the survey for $20,000 plus out-of-pocket expenses.

    Child Care Board Resignation

    Chris Elias has resigned from his position as business representative on the Child Advisory Board effective April 1, 2000. Efforts to find a replacement are underway.
