De Anza launches Travel/Study program
This summer, De Anza students enrolling in special sections of history will have the opportunity to visit some of America's most historic places through the college's Travel/Study program.
The two-week tour, led by course instructors Patrick Bresnan and Greg Knittel will constitute the final third of the class. The major sites on the itinerary include Washington, D.C, Philadelphia, Colonial Williamsburg, and Thomas Jefferson's home in Monticello.
The cost of the class is $1,800, with a deposit of $900 due at the time of enrollment. Fees cover airfare to and from Washington, chartered bus for the tour, double-occupancy hotel accommodations, admission charges and some meals. A single-room surcharge is available.
An informal meeting will be held May 24 at 11:30 a.m. and again at 5:30 p.m. in Room L-93 on the De Anza campus. Enrollment for each class is limited to 25 students.

History Center presents World War II program
The California History Center on May 23 will explore the significance of the World War II internment of Japanese-Americans and the issues and concerns of today. Panelists and participants will debate whether or not similar patterns of "scapegoating" persist against other groups of people in our state. This live, satellite broadcast will be viewed by community college students throughout the state. Campus discussions will continue from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information call 408.864.8712.
Early Childhood Conference scheduled for May
Teachers, daycare providers, parents and others ho influence the development of young children are invited to the Best Practices for Early Childhood Education, May 20 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Santa Clara County Office of Education.
Conference sessions will focus on strengthening skills in working with infant, toddler, pre-school and kindergarten-aged children. Participants will examine practices that guide children's intellectual and social development. One segment of the conference sessions will be held in Spanish.

Homestead High presents International Night
Homestead High School multicultural club All Shades of Color will presents International Night, May 27th from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the Homestead campus. The goal of the event is to celebrate cultural diversity and promote cultural awareness and racial unity in the community. Activities include dance performances, a live hip hop group, prizes and special guests.
Tickets are $5 at the door. Ticket price covers a slice of pizza and a drink. Proceeds from the event will be used to send students to Camp Anytown, a four-day retreat that teaches students how to build an inclusive community. For more information, call 408.732.0215.
