Hands on the Arts
Fifty professional artist from throughout the Bay Area will come to Sunnyvale this Saturday for the annual Hands on the Arts festival, the largest and oldest Bay Area art festival for kids. In its 15th year, Hands on the Arts is presented by the City of Sunnyvale and Arts Council Silicon Valley, a nonprofit organization supporting local arts. Children can participate in workshops in music, dance, painting, poetry, theater and sculpture. Children can participate all day in the workshops for $3. Entire families may join the fun for $10. Fremont Pool fundraise update
The Friends of the Fremont Pool have broken the $200,000 level in their quest to raise $1 million to help pay for operating costs of a proposed 50 meter pool at Fremont High School. Recent pledges include $50,000 from the Severns Family Foundation, $10,000 from John Vidovich of De Anza Properties and $7,000 from the Mountain View Masters. Holly Lofgren, head of the group, said they have $202,000 as of last Thursday. Sunnyvale City Council will decide on June 20 whether to enter a partnership with the Fremont Union High School District to build the pool.
