    Hovercraft provide a viable alternative

I read with interest the possible plan to put ferries on the bay to relieve some of the congestion during commutes to and from work. It seems to me as a visitor, the congestion is continuous in the daylight hours.

For many years I have been fascinated by the use of hovercraft. They would be ideal for your area because they do not require dredging, or docking piling. They can "land" on a parking lot, the end of a street, almost anywhere. They will skim across the water or on land. The main maintenance item on these craft would be the skirts. These skirts last for about as many miles as the tires on a car.

Hovercraft can be made to carry cars and trucks or just people. They are relatively inexpensive to build and maintain. They move rapidly and efficiently.

Hovercraft are used by our Navy and some rescue agencies and used for ferries in Oslo, Norway, and in England. They operate in the Thames River and on the English Channel.

In some research I have done, I found the cost would be about 20 percent of the cost of using regular ferries because dredging and docking sites are not necessary.

People should fight in their own civil wars; why are we involved in Yugoslavia?

I have one question for the people who believe we should fight in Yugoslavia.

Why don't you go there and fight, and leave us that don't believe we belong there alone?

When Spain had a civil war to oust Franco, Spanish-Americans raised donations, formed Lincoln Brigades and went to Spain to fight in its civil war.

They didn't ask others to fight for their beliefs.
