Public Safety
The following incidents were compiled from the log at the Sunnyvale Public Safety Department.
Auto/Pedestrian Accident--May 3, 2:17 a.m., the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety and the Fire Department responded to a report of a major auto/pedestrian accident at the intersection of Mathilda Avenue and US 101. They found an unconscious adult male with major injuries and initiated medical treatment with paramedics. The still-unidentified victim was taken to Stanford Hospital and later pronounced dead. The driver of the car was not injured, and the case is currently under investigation.
Burglary--May 8, 2:40 p.m., 600 block of Kifer Road at Home Depot. A suspect entered the store wearing a canvas jacket with slits cut in the inside liner and placed several items in the liner. He then purchased two expensive items and left the store.
Domestic Violence--May 7, 800 block of Iris Avenue. Police arrested a 29-year-old male for domestic violence and having two outstanding warrants.
Car Theft--Between May 11 at 8:30 p.m. and May 12 at 7:30 a.m., 700 block of Blaire Court. Unknown suspects(s) entered a vehicle through an unlocked door and removed a cell phone and camera lens. The victim's property, along with additional items, was found later in nearby bushes.
Resisting Arrest--May 11, 9:18 p.m., 600 block of E. Maude Avenue. During a vehicle stop with a motorist in front of the National Guard Armory, the occupant became verbally belligerent. Officers ordered him out of the car after he reached under the driver's seat. The officer then conducted a "pat-down " search, at which point the driver refused arrest, attempting to use physical force against the officer.
Grand Theft--Between March 23 and May 7, a male suspect stole multiple compact flash cards from his employer, Silicon Storage Technology. He then sold them for a personal gain of $7,836, resulting in a $11,178 loss to the company. Police arrested him at his house, after he admitted to the thefts when asked by his wife.
Possession of Needle--May 10, 10:15 a.m., Gonzaga Place and Borregas Avenue. During a "pat-down" search, an officer discovered a "rig," a hypodermic needle with a syringe and cooking spoon.
