State of the City coming on May 25
The "State of the City: Picnic and Music in the Park" event will begin with a patriotic mini parade by the Fremont Union High School Band, which will start at city hall, proceed along Pastoria Avenue and circle Washington Park. The festivities, which will be held in Washington Park, 840 W. Washington Avenue, will also feature local musical entertainment, community awards and Mayor Fred Fowler's State of the City address.
Residents are encouraged to bring their families, a picnic lunch and a blanket to kick off the summer season at the outdoor event. Organizations or members of the public who would like to participate in the mini parade can call Lupe Portillo at 408.730.7575 for information.
Community invited to breakfast
The community is invited to a pancake breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. on May 25 in front of the Sunnyvale City Hall. The pancake breakfast will take place just before the mini parade that kicks off this year's State of the City event.
Besides bringing to the community a variety of public safety demonstrations, the breakfast will help raise funds to send Sunnyvale community members to compete in the All-America City Award finalist competition in Kansas City, Mo., in June. Sunnyvale has been selected as one of the 30 finalist communities for the 2002 All-America City Award, the nation's longest-running civic recognition program.
For a suggested donation of $5 for adults and $3 for children and seniors, attendees will be treated to a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, juice, milk and coffee. Sunnyvale City Hall is located at 456 W. Olive Ave. For more information about the pancake breakfast, contact Yolanda Brown at 650.843.5688.
