Friends get together at Oliver's restaurant

The recent opening of Oliver's restaurant has given three friends and their families an opportunity to work together every day.
The three owners, Roger Malcolm, Ron Rosso and Paul Boulos, have known each other for more than 25 years. Malcolm and Rosso are retired police officers and decided to enter the restaurant business when Boulos approached them.
"We wanted to create a community-type atmosphere where people would feel comfortable," Malcolm said. "We want people to come here with their families and feel at home."
In an attempt to make the restaurant more inviting, the restaurant is decorated in greens and maroons with wood accents, Malcolm said.
The owners describe the menu as American cuisine with a continental flair.
"It is the best of both worlds," Malcolm said. "We have also added a bit of the Californian healthy cuisine to the menu."
Many family recipes are on the menu, including a grilled chicken over pasta with sautéed mushrooms and onions in a sweet basil sauce.
"There are a couple of family recipes, along with a few new ones," Malcolm said. "We'll try a few new things to see how they work."
There are also several fresh fish dishes, as well as the traditional steaks with prices ranging from $4 to $12 for dinner and $4 to $8 for lunch.
"We know how hard it is to make a dollar," Malcolm said. "We felt that people don't get much for their dollar anymore and thought it would be nice to get something for the money you spend.
"Nothing on the menu is more than $12, and we encourage people to take home whatever is left on their plate," he added.
The restaurant also serves old-time favorites such as Belgian waffles topped with strawberries or blueberries.
The restaurant is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the weekends.
"You can get anything on the menu any time of the day," he added.
Oliver's is located at 19541 Richwood Drive. 873-1444. Reservations are not necessary.
