Todd Kokka has spent most of his four years at Fremont High School in the water.
He's spent each fall season starring for the school's water polo team, and he's spent each spring as a leader on the Fremont swimming team.
That's all over now for the senior swimmer, though. His high school aquatics days have come to an end as he faces graduation from Fremont. But they ended just where he had hoped they would--at the Central Coast Section championships.
Kokka qualified for CCS in two events and competed in both at the championships held May 18 at the De Anza Aquatics Center in Cupertino.
Kokka competed in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 free at CCS, but came up short in his bid to reach the finals.
Kokka finished 24th in the 50 in 23.11 at the CCS trials, and he ended up 26th in the 100 in 50.91.
Kokka, a four-year star for the Indians, was one of the many swimmers from the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League competing at the section finals.
Monta Vista led the SCVAL effort at CCS.
Francia Tam was outstanding for the Matadors, winning a pair of titles. He was first in the 200 IM in 1:54.09 and first in the 100 back in 52.53.
Robert Wang and Chad Morse came through with solid efforts in the 100 breast at the CCS finals. Wang finished third in 59.86 with Morse a close fifth in 1:01.42. Lam Doan supported with an eighth in the 100 fly in 53.13.
Tam, Wang, Doan and Cliff Chan nailed a fifth in the 200 medley relay in 1:39.77, and Tim Andonian, Chris Oh, Chan and Fong finished seventh in the 200 free relay in 1:30.95.
Jamie Fong, Doan, Morse and Tam added a fifth in the 400 free relay in 3:14.54 to cap an outstanding day for the Matadors.
