Obituary
George DeWolf, 75, dies
By Melissa Matchak
Longtime Sunnyvale resident George DeWolf died May 21 at the age of 75. DeWolf was born in Chelsea, Mass., and spent his early years on a farm in Nova Scotia, Canada. He attended the University of Maine, the University of Vermont and the East School of Photography in Boston. DeWolf joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Germany during World War II and in the Korean War as a cartographic technician.
Following the war, DeWolf began a career in graphic arts as a color lithographer in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1962 he moved to Seattle, Wash., where he was a member of the team that oversaw the printed materials associated with the Seattle World's Fair.
DeWolf married Helen Teskey-Cram, with whom he had two daughters. The family moved to San Jose in 1964, where DeWolf worked for Creative Color in Santa Clara.
In 1977 the DeWolf family moved to Willow Ranch in Sunnyvale, where he served a term as president of the Willow Ranch Association and a volunteer for numerous senior citizen activities. DeWolf was also an honorary member of the Graphic Communications International Union, Sons in Retirement and the American Legion.
After retiring from Thompson Lithograph in Palo Alto in 1992, he and his wife traveled extensively aboard working cargo vessels to both the east and west coasts of South America, Australia, New Zealand and China.
DeWolf was a crossing guard for San Miguel Elementary School in Sunnyvale, where students enjoyed tales of his adventures and the ballcaps he wore from the many ports-of-call he visited.
DeWolf is survived by his wife, his daughters, Cynthia Colpaart of Austin, Texas, and Leslie Farrow of Pleasanton, five grandchildren, his brother Billy DeWolf of Trinity, and sister Bea Borucki of Peabody, Mass.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on June 2 at 3 p.m. at the Willow Ranch Clubhouse, 1111 Morse Ave, Sunnyvale. Donations to the George DeWolf Endowment for the Enrichment of Children at San Miguel Elementary School, 777 San Miguel Ave, Sunnyvale, 94085 are suggested.
