De Anza College presents Student Art Show
De Anza College's annual Student Art Show currently is on view at the Euphrat Museum of Art on the De Anza College Campus in Cupertino. The show is sponsored by the De Anza Associated Student Body, the Euphrat Museum of Art, and the Creative Arts Division.
The show presents works in sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, ceramics, graphics, and mixed media. All works were done by De Anza College students during the past year. Jurors for the show were Young Kim, Dale Kistemaker, and Yoshitomo Saito.
A reception for the artists will take place Tuesday, June 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m The event includes an awards presentation. The show runs through June 17th.
Kloes promoted to Director of Human Resources
At the May 16, 2000 meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Fremont Union High School District, Superintendent Joe Hamilton announced the promotion of Leslie Kloes to Director of Human Resources for the District, effective May 17, 2000. In this new position, Kloes' premiere responsibility will be to lead the District in recruiting and hiring top-notch teachers, administrators, and support staff to provide the world-class education that the district and its community expect.
Superintendent Joe Hamilton called Kloes one of the most talented young administrators in the state. She has performed well above expectations as coordinator, Hamilton said, and has earned her promotion to director by her high-level of performance including establishing new procedures which enhance fairness and a client centered approach to Human Resources.
Born in Omaha, Nebraska but raised in Santa Clara, Kloes graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor's degree in
International Relations. Following an internship in that field, she attended Santa Clara University and obtained her teaching credential. She began her career in the District in 1992 as an economics/government teacher at Monta Vista High School and was active in school leadership roles and staff development. In 1996 she received her masters degree in education administration at Santa Clara University was promoted to assistant principal at Homestead High School in 1997. Kloes was promoted in March 1999 to Coordinator of Human Resources and during this past year has played a pivotal role in organizing, supervising, and reviewing the activities of the certified and classified personnel programs for the District.
Brummer named Adult & Community Education Teacher-of-the-Year
Linda Brummer was honored as the Fremont Union High School
District's Certificated Employee-of-the-Year from Adult and Community Education (ACE) by the Board of Trustees at its meeting on May 16. Brummer began her career in Adult Education as an English as a Second Language instructor in 1989. In the following years, she also taught in the Adult Basic Skills Program. Since 1997, Brummer has been the Lead Teacher for the Citizenship Program. In this role she has developed an ESL/Citizenship Interview Preparation class, which is a model for others in the county.
Following graduation from Wayne State University in Detroit, Brummer worked as an elementary teacher in Detroit for four years before moving to teach at a private school in Oakland. Later she began working with adults by volunteering her services at the Menlo Park Library in California.
Brummer and her husband, Dr. Barry Brummer, a physician with Good Samaritan Hospital, have two daughters, Julie and Kimberly-both graduates of Homestead High School.
Chapin named Adult & Community Education Employee-of-the-Year
Marianne Chapin was honored as the Fremont Union High
School District's Classified Employee-of-the-Year from Adult and Community Education (ACE) by the Board of Trustees at its meeting on May 16. Chapin began working as a custodian at Cupertino High School in 1991 and came to Adult Education in 1998 as a senior custodian. She is responsible not only for maintaining the offices and some of the classrooms, but also for the main landscaping at the ACE facility.
The staff who nominated Marianne Chapin universally commented on her consistently cheerful enthusiasm. In addition to the high quality of her work, one of the things staff most appreciate about Chapin, is that she is always looking for ways to help, beyond her regular duties. Chapin has two children, Gary, 16, and Amanda, 15.
