Pullano flips no-hitter
By Dick Sparrer
There's nothing more nerve-wracking for a pitcher than to take the mound in the seventh inning to preserve a no-hitter.
But Nick Pullano of the White Sox in the senior division of the Sunnyvale National Little League was spared that stress when he battled the Tri City Braves--he clinched his no-hitter without even having to throw a pitch in that seventh inning.
Pullano and the White Sox whipped the Braves 13-0 in a May 19 game at Cupertino High School that was called after six innings because of the 10-run rule.
Pullano struck out four and walked four on his way to the gem. He also helped himself out at the plate with a single, a stolen base and a couple of runs scored.
B.J. Klein and Joe Silva led the White Sox at the plate with two hits apiece to knock in two runs each. Klein ripped a triple and also scored two runs.
Estevan Carbijal had a pair of hits and scored three runs for the Sox, and Daniel Guevara had two hits and knocked in a run. Ronnie Cerda singled and scored twice, Robert Schmidt and Laniel Harvey each knocked in runs and Ali Akhavi scored two runs. Ted Maston walked, swiped a base and scored a run.
The victory evened the White Sox record at 1-1. The Sox had lost their season opener 12-9 to the Phillies, despite two home runs by Carbijal. The slugger drove in five of his club's nine runs.
