Kam, Seddiqui place at CCS
Big day for SCVAL at track finals
By Dick Sparrer
It was quite a day for the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League, and Kristen Kam of Fremont and Daniel Seddiqui of Homestead were both a big part of it.
Kam and Seddiqui brought home two of the 49 places that athletes from the SCVAL won at the rugged Central Coast Section track and field championships held May 28 at San Jose City College.
Kam raced to a seventh-place finish in the girls 300 low hurdles in 47.10, and Seddiqui was 10th in the boys 1,600 meters in 4:28.33.
Kam, though, won't be among the four girls from the SCVAL advancing to the state meet set for June 4-5 at Hughes Stadium in Sacramento. Only the top three placers in each event at CCS qualify for the prestigious state meet.
Still, it was an exciting finish to an outstanding season for Kam. She had earned her place in the finals with a sixth-place finish at the CCS semifinals a week earlier.
Girls from the SCVAL advancing to the state meet this weekend include Heather Hennessy of Los Gatos (third in the 800 meters in 2:14.96), Katie Brizgys of Palo Alto (second in the 3,200 meters in 10:40.85 and third in the 1,600 in 4:52.15), Anne Ricketts of Saratoga (third in the 3,200 meters in 10:58.65) and Tenia Green of Wilcox (third in the 300 hurdles in 45.20).
Homestead's Daniel Seddiqui romped to a 10th-place finish in 4:28.33 in the 1,600-meter run at the CCS finals.
