    Private fund made for public schools

    On May 30 a $550,000 anonymous individual donation was given to Santa Clara Public Schools Starting Arts Program. The program starting on June 7 will showcase a pilot program that will be kicked off at Ponderosa Elementary School at 804 Ponderosa Ave. Starting Arts provides the opportunity for independent, consistent instruction in the four fundamental arts disciplines-dance, music, theatre and visual arts, with performance and exhibition as the outcome goal. The showcase on June 7 will include vocal performance, Taiko drums, a string ensemble, swing dance and a one-act play. For more information call Ann Watts at 408.423.4050.

    Sunnyvale ranked fourth safest city

    Sunnyvale has been ranked as the fourth most crime-free big cities in the nation with Sunnyvale ranking forth. The rankings are based on a combination of crime and statistics from the FBI and the Census Bureau.

    Body of resident found in ocean

    The body of Tinh Viet Nguyen, a Sunnyvale man was recovered on around 8 a.m. May 26, more than a week after he was reported missing while diving for abalone along the Sonoma County Coast near Fort Ross. Nguyen, 49, was reported missing May 18. Divers found his body on the ocean floor, approximately 20 yards offshore.
