    Candidate leaves council race

Ray Montalvo, who announced his candidacy for City Council seat No. 7 in March, withdrew last week. Citing a recent promotion to director of retail operations at Le Boulanger. Montalvo said the promotion will expand his responsibilities and require more travel, which will not allow sufficient time for a City Council position.

"This has been a difficult and regrettable decision," Montalvo said. "But it's certainly in the right direction professionally and something I needed to do at this point in time."

Montalvo said the new position at Le Boulanger has been "a long time in the making and transpiring for the last four to six weeks."

Though he did not say whether he would run for a council seat in the future, Montalvo did say he "will continue to assist and help out in any way possible--whenever and wherever the possibility exists."

Italian grandmother./Mixing and kneading/and always surprised/I stood there amazed as the dough would arise."

The poetry contest is part of Round Table's 40th anniversary celebrations, and rewards the winning poets with a free pizza every month for the next three and a half years.

"Pizza is all about fun and a special kind of experience," said Jim Fletcher, president of Round Table Franchise Corporation. "Nothing can communicate love and wild, crazy attachment better than poetry. Our budding pizza laureates are proof positive."
