Woo, Vikes win titles

Natalie Woo of Fremont won the girls' singles title, and the Lynbrook pair of Jessica Mark and Margaret Ting took the girls' doubles crown when the Central Coast Section badminton finals were held at Gunn last month.

Woo handled Bahareh Rahmatian of Leland 15-8, 15-12 in the girls' singles title match. Woo had wins over Rahmatian (11-15, 15-8, 15-1) and Ngoc Mach of Silver Creek (15-7, 15-13) earlier in the tournament.

Mark and Ting teamed for a 15-9, 15-8 win over Kim Hoang and Tam Nguyen of Independence in the girls' doubles finals. The two had beaten their Viking teammates Nancy Guang and Doris Yu in the quarterfinals, then turned back Tiph Hirata and Lucy Tang of Independence 15-3, 15-1 in the semis.

Monta Vista's Hilbert Kwan was second in the boys' singles division. Kwan beat David Thang of Hill 15-9, 15-13, but lost to James Young of Gunn in the finals 15-4, 15-6.

Victor Chen of James Feng of Monta Vista made it to the boys' doubles semifinals before losing. Scott Hsiang and Dennis Wang of Lynbrook lost in the quarterfinals.

Sunnyvale AYSO

The Sunnyvale AYSO will hold soccer signups for the fall season for boys and girls ages 4 1/2-18 (born after July 31, 1980, and before Jan. 31, 1994).

Signups will be held June 13, noon-5 p.m., at the Ponderosa Park Recreation Building.
